Here are scores from basketball games played in the Yadkin Valley on Friday night. Look for more coverage later this weekend.
BOYS BASKETBALL
East Wilkes 47, Elkin 43: Dillon Cabe scored 18 points and McKinley White hit five of six free throws coming down the stretch to lift the Cardinals to a big conference win. The game proved nip and tuck throughout. Elkin had two chances to tie the game, trailing 46-43 with less than 30 seconds to go. But a pair of three-point attempts rimmed out.
Starmount 62, Wilkes Central 48: The Rams won a crucial conference match-up heading into their Tuesday rematch with Forbush. Jacob Riley (13 points), Jake Barr (12 points) and Fondae McDaniel (10 points) reached double figures for Starmount. Forbush and North Wilkes currently lead the conference — each team has two league losses. Starmount has three losses, and Wilkes Central now has four. Tyler Updike led Wilkes Central with 15 points.
South Stokes 64, Bishop McGuinness 56: Cole Greene scored 18 points to lead the victorious Sauras.
Surry Central 62, North Surry 59
East Surry 53, North Stokes 42
GIRLS BASKETBALL
East Wilkes 53, Elkin 34: After giving up the first basket, the Cardinals went on a 17-1 run to take command and never looked back. Shina Parks buried a trio of three-pointers and finished with 20 points. Samantha Adams added 14 points. Samantha Dimmette (11 points) reached double figures for the Elks.
Wilkes Central 61, Starmount 58: Despite falling behind early, the Rams kept things interesting until the end against the deep and speedy Eagles. Four Central players reached double figures, led by Haley Williams (19 points), Martha Mastin (13), Katie Ryder (12) and Sarah Jennings (11). Starmount’s Kelli Bonner led all scorers with 26 points. Becca Aplin added 10 points for the Rams, while Amber Wooten and Courtney Barnes had 9 points each.
