The Mountain Valley 1A/2A and Northwest 1A/2A conferences reached the halfway point of their baseball schedules Tuesday night. Wilkes Central grabbed a one-game lead over Forbush in the MVAC with a 10-5 win in East Bend, while West Stokes has forged a one-game edge over Bishop McGuinness in the Northwest.
Wilkes Central pitcher Parks Smithey gave up his first earned runs of the season, but the Eagles had more than enough offense to support their ace Tuesday night at Forbush. The Eagles banged out 14 hits and seven starters recorded at least one RBI in a 10-5 win over the Falcons.
Starmountâ€™s baseball, softball and girls soccer teams all earned wins at North Wilkes on Tuesday night. But all three certainly were hard-earned victories — maybe more so than expected.
