Wilkes softball team takes 2nd in state

The Wilkes County girls coach-pitch softball all-stars finished as the runners-up in the Tar Heel Leagues Inc. state tournament in Morganton on July 14-17.
Wilkes won its first game 6-0, then beat the Alexander Gold team 6-0, before losing in the winners bracket final to Burke County 6-1. Wilkes came back through the losers bracket, beating Alexander Blue 8-2 to make it back to the championship game. Burke County won the finale 6-3.
The Wilkes all-stars would like to thank all those who supported them during their terrific district and state tournament all-star season.
