North Surry players celebrate a winning point against Starmount.

The Greyhounds used sharp serving and a balanced offensive approach to defeat the Rams 25-22, 25-17 and 25-18. North Surry, now 28-2, came into the match ranked No. 1 in the state for Class 2A by Starmount, 27-4, was the No. 2 ranked team for Class 2A.

The Rams never could get their offense untracked against the homestanding Greyhounds. A lot of that had to do with North Surry’s serving, which made passes and sets much more difficult.

Morgan Bunker, Morgan Midkiff and Molly Martin paced North Surry with 26 kills combined.

The Greyhounds will play a third-round game at Wheatmore on Thursday night.
