West Stokes football players commit to Campbell

Two all-state football players from West Stokes’ state championship team have given verbal commitments to play for Campbell University in 2012.

Senior quarterback Austin Fleming and senior defensive back DeMarion Jones both pledged to join the Camels this week, according to team statistician Robert Money. Both Fleming and Jones were instrumental in the Wildcats’ 16-0 season and 2AA state title.

Fleming was voted MVP of the state championship game. Both Fleming and Jones were recognized as all-state for Class 2A by NCPreps.com.

Commitments are still non-binding at this point. Football players from the Class of 2012 can sign national letters of intent beginning, Feb. 1, 2012.

Starmount graduate Jake Barr and Elkin grad Alex Ratley played for Campbell University this past fall.
