Lowder, a senior guard who played his high school ball at North Forsyth, made his first nine three-pointers. His first and only miss came with five minutes left in the game. He got another look with 3:10 to play and drilled his 10th trifecta from the top of the key – besting the previous Guilford College record shared by Clay Henson (’10) and Jordan Snipes (’07).
Lowder missed the Old Dominion Athletic Conference record for three-pointers by one. His 90.9 three-point field-goal percentage is also tops in school history for shooters with more than six threes in a game.
A pair of Lowder three-pointers early in the second half helped power a 14-1 Guilford run, as the Quakers pulled out to a comfortable working margin. As a team, Guilford made 14-of-22 three-pointers for the game and shot 63 percent from the floor in the second half.
Lowder’s previous career high in scoring had been 21 points. He scored 22 points by halftime last Wednesday.
Lowder earned the ODAC’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Award on Monday, the first of his career. He was also named Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. The Guilford prize is presented weekly by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
As of Monday, Lowder ranks 13th in the ODAC and second on the team in scoring (13.3 ppg.). He makes 80 percent of his free throws and 44 percent of his three-point shots, which both rank third in the league. His 2.4 three-pointers per game is the ODAC’s third-best figure and ranks 92nd in NCAA Division III through games of Feb. 2.
