The dance card is set for championship night in the Mountain Valley 1A/2A and Northwest 1A/2A conference baseball tournaments.
Wilkes Central beat West Wilkes 4-2 in walkoff fashion Thursday, thanks to a two-out, two-run homer from Martin Koon in the bottom of the seventh inning. Starmount got clutch hitting from the likes of players like Tanner Mathis (three doubles, three RBIs) and Chase Thompson (double, triple, three RBIs) to beat Forbush 7-2.
The Northwest 1A/2A finale will be an all-Stokes County affair. Top-seeded West Stokes, the host for this year’s tournament, will entertain South Stokes in Monday night’s title bout.
West Stokes edged Surry Central 2-1 in Thursday’s semifinals. South Stokes topped East Surry 5-2 in other semi, getting a strong pitching performance from Jonathan Montgomery, who carried a no hitter into the sixth inning.
