West Wilkes-East Surry softball delayed again

MILLERS CREEK — Lightning forced another postponement in the East Surry at West Wilkes playoff softball showdown.

The Cardinals and Blackhawks were in the fourth inning Wednesday night when lightning halted the action. The game did not continue. Play is scheduled to resume Thursday at 6 p.m. with East Surry leading 5-4. West Wilkes will be up to bat. The Blackhawks had hit a pair of home runs just before the delay.

The second-round game originally had been scheduled for Tuesday night but heavy rains over the weekend and into Tuesday postponed the contest to Wednesday.

The winner will advance to play at North Stokes in the third round on Friday. East Surry — the reigning 1A state champion — split with North Stokes during Northwest 1A/2A regular season play. North Stokes edged East Wilkes 3-2 on Tuesday night in Danbury.
