Former Elkin High baseball slugger Keith Whitman batted himself into the UNC Pembroke record books this past week. Whitman, a senior, hit his 41st career home run with the Braves in the fourth inning of a 20-5 win against region rival St. Andrews. Whitman took a direct hit from a pitch on his nose in his previous at-bat.
Surry Knights starting to get national recognition

Surry Community College baseball improved to 24-7 overall and 9-4 in Region X with a weekend sweep of Rockingham. The Knights are listed No. 24 in a national poll of Division II JUCO teams.
