Wilkes Diamonds team places fourth in state

The Wilkes Diamonds 4th grade-under girls basketball team finished fourth in the YBOA state tournament in Mount Airy on May 11-13.

Forbush hosting co-ed summer basketball camp

The 2012 Forbush Coed Basketball Camp will be held June 18-20 at the high school. Sessions for rising third- through fifth-graders will run from 8-11 a.m. Sessions for rising sixth- through ninth-graders will be from noon until 3 p.m.

West Wilkes Lady Blackhawks summer hoops camp

The West Wilkes Lady Blackhawk Basketball Camp will be held June 4-7. The camp is open to players in grades 1-8. Sessions will run from 1-4 p.m. each day. The cost is $30.

Sign-up now for Westfield summer hooops league

The Westfield Booster Club is holding sign-ups for its summer basketball league until June 2. The league is for players in middle school and high school. The cost is $60 for one player or $45 for more than one player per family.

Mount Airy girls hoops camp coming June 18-21

The Mount Airy girls basketball team will be holding its annual camp from June 18-21. This camp is being held to provide instruction for the fundamentals of basketball.

North Surry youth hoops camp coming June 11-14

North Surry will hold its annual basketball camp June 11-14 for boys who are rising third- to ninth-graders. The camp consists of fundamental stations, skills contests and league games. East Wilkes holding annual youth hoops camp

The annual Cardinal Youth Basketball Camp will be held at East Wilkes High School on June 11-14. Sessions are open to boys in grades 3-8 (excludes rising high school freshmen) and will run from 8 a.m. until noon in the high school gym.

Champion Skills Camp coming to Pilot Mountain

The second-annual Champion Skills Camp for basketball players will be held July 16-19 at Pilot Mountain Middle School. The four-day camp will be split into two sessions. The cost of the camp is $60 if paid by June 25 and $65 after June 25.

Surry Storm wins YBOA state hoops title

The 3rd Grade Surry Storm Black team won the YBOA state championship, held in Mount Airy this past weekend. The team finished the tournament undefeated.

Starmount youth hoops camp coming in July

The fourth-annual Risings Stars Starmount Basketball Camp will be held July 18-21. Sessions will run from 9 a.m. until noon each day at Starmount Middle School. Participants will receive daily instruction from coaches and players on fundamentals of the game.

Surry Storm hoops squad finishes unbeaten

The 8U Surry Storm Black girls basketball team competed in the 2012 Lady Gaters Classic in Greensboro on March 17-18. The Storm finished the tournament undefeated.

Wilkes Diamonds 4th-graders win title

The Wilkes Diamonds 4th Grade-Under girls basketball team won the West Whirlies Tournament on March 17. The Diamonds won all three games for the day. The team also finished third out of 16 teams in the Mount Airy March Madness Tournament on March 3-4. They had 3 wins and 2 losses during that tournament. The girls would like to thank all their sponsors. The Wilkes Diamonds Girls Basketball Club is directed by Bradley Stokes.

The Surry Storm girls basketball program will hold tryouts twice this month. Below is the schedule:

Yadkin Valley Cyclones spin runner-up finish

The Yadkin Valley Cyclones 10U boys basketball team finished with a 3-1 record and a runner-up finish in the Fort Chiswell (Va.) Super Bowl Jam this past weekend. The Cyclones were led by Luke Norman with 25 points, Austin Longworth with 20 points, and Maston Renegar with 18 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Cyclones were Tyler Mayes with 14, and Nick Harris with 10.

Wilkes Diamonds holding tryouts Feb. 5

The Wilkes Diamonds girls’ basketball program will be holding tryouts for the 2012 spring season this Sunday, Feb. 5th in the Wilkes Central High School auxiliary gym.
