The two clubs that have dominated the Blue Ridge Swim League the past two decades finished 1-2 in the season ending championship meet this weekend at the Elkin Municipal Pool. The Elkin Wet Lightning captured first place and the Dobson Dolphins placed second. Elkin won both the boys overall high point trophy and the girls overall high point trophy.
Despite missing several swimmers for various reasons, the Elkin Wet Lightning fended off the Reeves Rapids and Carroll Tiger Sharks in a Saturday tri-meet. Sarah Cesare and Cameron Burleson both won four individual events for Elkin. Mattie Wells, Tessa Cesare, Grace Cesare and Alex Duncan were triple winners. Maia Schweikert, Payton Nicholson and Ashton Gant touched first in two events each.
Elkin’s summer swim team is fast and getting faster. Wet Lightning swimmers collectively posted more than 100 personal best times en route to a Tuesday night meet win over the Dobson Dolphins. Fifty-eight swimmers in all set new personal records, coach Emily Morrison said.
